The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), through its Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability (CMEDIA) Project, invites local journalists and journalists reporting on local issues to apply for its virtual training on “Maximising Digital Platforms: Amplifying Investigative Stories, Engaging Audiences and Unlocking Opportunities.”
In an increasingly digital media environment, journalists need to think beyond publication and find effective ways to push their local stories to reach wider and more relevant audiences, sustain engagement, and generate impact. For local and community-focused journalists, this means understanding how to adapt stories for different digital platforms, strategically distribute and amplify their work, and build digital communities around issues that matter to their audiences.
Digital platforms can also help journalists build visibility and influence around their work, connect with policymakers, experts, civil society organisations and other stakeholders, and create opportunities for collaboration, partnership, funding, revenue and other forms of support. Used strategically, digital platforms can therefore help local stories travel further, stay relevant for longer and create greater value for both journalists and the communities they serve.
The training will provide participants with practical approaches to maximising digital platforms to amplify investigative stories, engage audiences, build visibility and influence, and unlock opportunities for their journalism.
