WSCIJ Announces Date for 18th Wole Soyinka Centre Media Lecture Series

As Nigeria stands on the precipice of another pivotal election year, the role of a free and courageous press has never been more critical to the survival of our democratic social contract. The decisions we make today, the investigations we pursue now, and the civic space we protect this year will determine the integrity of our transition in 2027.

For nearly two decades, the Media Lecture Series has served as a vital laboratory for examining topical issues that have a reverberating effect on the performance of the media and the health of Nigeria’s democracy. Traditionally held to mark the birthday of Africa’s first Nobel laureate and our grand patron, Professor Wole Soyinka.

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is proud to announce the 18th edition of our annual lecture series.

This edition is not just a lecture; it is a milestone. As we celebrate two decades of courageous journalism, we are doubling down on our commitment to safeguarding democracy. With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, 2026 represents a critical preparatory window for the Nigerian media. The 18th Media Lecture Series will specifically examine how the decisions made by journalists today will determine the integrity of the democratic transition tomorrow.
