Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director/CEO of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), has been named one of the 15 Women Redefining Nigerian Media by Culture Custodian. The recognition highlights women making significant strides in journalism, broadcasting, digital media, and media development.
As the Executive Director/CEO of WSCIJ, Alaka has spent many years spearheading groundbreaking investigative journalism programmes, promoting media ethics and amplifying female voices in newsrooms. Her leadership continues to inspire new generations of journalists to pursue excellence, equity, and accountability.
Alaka was honoured alongside other media powerhouse figures including Kadaria Ahmed, CEO of RadioNow 93.5 FM and Toun Okewale Sonaiya, CEO of WFM 91.7 FM, Nigeria’s first women-focused radio station. Others include, Feyikemi Akin-Bankole, Aditoun Samiat Alamutu, Ore Ogunbiyi, Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, Kemi Smallz, Melody Hassan, Aisha Saludien, Uche Pedro, Jola Ayeye, Busola Tejumola, Chinasa Anukam and Simi Badiru.
In addition to being celebrated, the honourees are actively mentoring emerging women journalists over a 90-day period, further reinforcing their commitment to shaping the future of media in Nigeria.
This recognition comes as no surprise to those familiar with Alaka’s impact, from managing award-winning projects to facilitating direct engagement with policy makers and international platforms, she has consistently raised the bar for media leadership.
