WSCIJ calls media organisations to apply for House-to-House on investigative journalism desk

WSCIJ

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) invites applications from media organisations to participate in its House-to-House on investigative journalism desk under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity, and Accountability (CMEDIA) project. House-to-House initiative seeks to create investigative reporting desks where they do not exist and strengthen existing ones.

The engagement will entail visits to successful media houses to conduct a one-day orientation for members of staff and management on investigative journalism desk. The partnership will seek to strengthen their investigative reporting desk to publish impactful stories on state and local government with technical and possible financial support.

Designed to engage both staff and management of news media houses in their media houses, House-to-House has been used in the past to canvass investigative journalism desk, leadership of women in the news and newsroom and improved reporting for the energy desk. Under the initiative, WSCIJ has trained 636 journalists from The Nation Newspaper, Television Continental (TVC), New Telegraph Newspaper, Guardian Newspaper, The News Magazine, Leadership Newspaper, Daily Trust Newspaper, TheCable, BusinessDay Newspaper, Premium Times, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Leadership Newspaper, Daily Trust Newspaper and the Lagos and Abuja offices of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability (CMEDIA) project is designed as a multi-level intervention for media independence and government accountability. It seeks to strengthen the media’s independence and presence, especially at state and local government levels in a bid to improve public awareness and the ecosystem for accountability there. It was initiated by WSCIJ and funded by the MacArthur Foundation.

Application closes on Friday 10 February 2023.

News editors, managers or any other designated person of reputable media organisations in Nigeria are encouraged to apply on behalf of their organisations.
