Wins for Nigerian media as WSCIJ continues to champion collaboration, investigative reporting, inclusion

In March, media collaboration was at the core of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ)’s activities as we visited some partner organisations under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability (CMEDIA) project, a multi-level intervention for media independence and government accountability which amplifies voices, enhances transparency, and promotes subnational reporting.

Subnational issues often do not attract national media coverage, underscoring the necessity of collaboration among subnational media, national media, and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to amplify these concerns and bolster accountability at the state and local government level.

The centre’s history of fostering collaborations shows that media alliance pools a diverse range of perspectives and resources and boosts efficiency for comprehensive coverage of subnational issues. Collaboration is the media’s new currency. It promotes the culture of accountability, amplifies subnational issues, and garners attention from the public and policymakers.

WSCIJ has been instrumental in driving collaboration with media and media support organisations through our activities as spotlighted in this newsletter. Through the CMEDIA project, Solacebase established an audio-visual studio, Albarka 89.9 FM supported three townhalls in Kwara State and organised media roundtables for 82 Journalists on media independence and government accountability. Through the CMEDIA House-to-House on investigative journalism desk initiative, Harmony 103.5 FM, Ilorin, recently committed to set up an investigative journalism desk.
