Radio journalists, owners and stakeholders from the academia, civil society and others will on Tuesday 13 February 2024 discuss how to synergise the powers of investigative reporting and radio as part of activities to mark the 2024 World Radio Day. The virtual conversation which will be held as part of WSCIJ’s Journalism & Society Conversations as an X Space (former Twitter) is to celebrate radio’s century-long role in informing, educating, entertaining, and awakening the civic consciousness of citizens to participate in governance.
Abiodun Adeniyi, Professor of Mass Communication, Baze University, Abuja; Chinelo Ozoalor, Head, Political desk, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu; Rasheed Adigun, General Manager, Albarka FM, Ilorin; Anthony Adejuwon, Team Lead, Urban Alert, Osogbo and Nabilah Usman, presenter, Radio Now, Lagos to discuss the history, evolution, challenges, and opportunities of investigative journalism in radio within the Nigerian media landscape.
The speakers will also discuss sustainability strategies in the face of increased competition from digital platforms, social media, digital evolution, generational divides, censorship, and economic hardships in line with the 2024 theme by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
