In 2009, the WSCIJ commemorated the 75th anniversary of Professor Wole Soyinka with the media lecture series by starting a tradition of holding the lecture event on July 13, his birthday. Dr. Olatunji Dare, an Associate Professor of Journalism at Bradley University, Peoria Illinois USA and a former editorial page editor of The Guardian Newspaper gave the insightful lecture on “Narrating the Nigerian story: the challenges for the media”.
The lecture drew on the capacity of the media in telling the Nigerian story as it should be done, providing answers to questions as: What is the story of Nigeria? What is the story of the press? How faithfully has the press narrated the story of Nigeria? How can the press, given its own limitations, do a better job of narrating the story of Nigeria?
