Call for Investigative Story Pitches: COVID-19 Reality Check Project

Call for Investigative Story Pitches

Application deadline: Sunday 30 August 2020 | 11:59pm (WAT)

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) invites Nigerian professional journalists (full-time or freelance) from the print, online, broadcast and photography specialties, and non-journalists with an interest in reporting impactful investigative stories, to submit their story pitches for consideration for funding as part of the organisation’s COVID-19 Reality Check Project supported by the MacArthur Foundation.

The COVID-19 Reality Check project is a WSCIJ initiative that examines government interventions and promises in relation to the realities on the ground in terms of social welfare, water and sanitation, economics, security, food availability and accessibility, education, electric power supply, and more. The WSCIJ and its partner, the MacArthur Foundation, support reporters from various media organisations to better report such stories and point out gaps.

WSCIJ will invite journalists with successful pitches to a one-day virtual briefing on modalities for executing the investigative story projects. Also, we will provide for one month towards delivering the stories.

Note

Attendance of the virtual briefing is mandatory once an application is successful.

WSCIJ encourages journalists with story ideas from all parts of Nigeria that interrogate the disruptions witnessed in specific industries/sectors of the economy due to the pandemic to apply.

We encourage female journalists and persons living with disabilities to apply

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
