Twelve female reporters under the 6th edition of the Report Women! Female Reporters Leadership Programme (FRLP) gathered virtually on Thursday, 14 August 2025, for an intensive workshop on investigative reporting. The session, designed to refine their ongoing story projects, provided practical guidance, connections and strategies to help them deliver impactful story ahead of their awards and induction ceremony.
The workshop, facilitated by their mentors—Stella Din-Jacob, immediate past Editor-in-Chief and Director of News at TVC News; Juliana Francis, Publisher of Security News Alert; and Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director/CEO of WSCIJ, engaged the participants in breakout sessions to unpack the complexities of investigative reporting, offering insights on how to sharpen story angles, strengthen evidence and navigate challenges that often hinder such demanding work.
During the session, participants, including Dana Zagi, Rasheedat Iliyas, Jemilat Nasiru, Mary Agidi, Temitope Obayendo, Bilkis Lawal, Melony Ishola, Juliet Buna, Christiana Alabi-Akande, Dana Zagi, Aisha Gambo, Chigozie Victor, and Gloria Attah, presented their story projects and received tailored feedback.
The conversation also had Alaka remind participants that investigative reporting is demanding and resource-intensive. “However, it remains one of the most rewarding forms of journalism because of its power to drive change.” She encouraged the participants to seek support whenever challenges arise and stressed the need to work hard to meet the final deadline for story submissions ahead of their award and induction as fellows.
