{"id":562,"date":"2021-07-06T15:04:20","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T14:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wscij.org\/free-to-share\/?p=562"},"modified":"2021-07-06T15:19:40","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T14:19:40","slug":"photostory-vaccine-apathy-in-abuja-hawkers-students-refuse-to-wear-face-masks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wscij.org\/free-to-share\/photostory-vaccine-apathy-in-abuja-hawkers-students-refuse-to-wear-face-masks\/","title":{"rendered":"Photostory: Vaccine apathy in Abuja, hawkers, students refuse to wear face masks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 has issued some guidelines on how Nigerians can fight the pandemic, which includes non-pharmaceutical measures such as hand washing, physical distancing and the use of face masks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the level of compliance has been a source of concern for stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents of Abuja, the nation\u2019s capital have been seen flouting these guidelines, which are backed by an Executive order signed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The PUNCH<\/em> observed that in some schools in the FCT, the guidelines have been discarded, while hawkers completely ignore the precautions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the COVID-19 vaccination exercise elicited mixed reactions. While some Abuja residents got vaccinated, others failed to, claiming that since it\u2019s not compulsory, it must not be important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One reason residents are hesitant about getting vaccinated includes some of the recorded side effects, which include; headache, fever and dizziness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the clinics where the vaccinations are taking place, it was observed that some people complained of pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At every vaccination centre, <em>The PUNCH visited,<\/em> the health workers advised those vaccinated to wait a while before leaving the facility.
