The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) invites entries from Nigerian professional journalists (full-time or freelance) with experience and or interest in reporting basic education OR electricity, from the print, online, broadcast and photography specialties, to the deep-dive course on improved reporting of basic education and electricity issues under its Regulators Monitoring Programme (REMOP).
REMOP is conceived as a media initiative geared at reporting the activities of regulators, including successes and failures, in a bid to promote proactive disclosure of information, transparency and accountability. REMOP seeks to take the best that media has to offer, coupled with the strength of civil society organisations, technical partners and non-governmental organisations have to enable good governance in the country. The MacArthur Foundation supports the pilot phase of the programme with focus on the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the agency responsible for regulating basic education in Nigeria, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which is the independent regulatory body responsible for the regulation of the electric power industry in Nigeria.
