The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is pleased to invite applications from senior investigative journalists and editors in Nigeria for its Civic Space Guard Holistic Safety for Investigative Reporters, Masterclass (2.0) scheduled to be held in November 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria.
This initiative is part of the broader programme, “Leveraging the Power of the Media to Fortify Civic Space and Tackle Malinformation,” implemented in partnership with the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and generously supported by the Netherlands Embassy. Following the success of the first edition, the masterclass aims to empower participants with the critical knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to safely and effectively navigate the complex risks and challenges inherent in investigative reporting.
Since its launch in December 2021, the Civic Space Guard project has been strengthened through initial funding from the Joint Civic Defence Fund through the Yar’Adua Foundation. This edition will feature bespoke training sessions designed to address the unique safety concerns faced by participants based on their reporting beats and locations, ensuring that each attendee gains practical, relevant, and actionable insights.
The training is open exclusively to senior and experienced investigative journalists and editors based in Nigeria who are committed to advancing media freedom and civic space through safe, responsible investigative journalism.
