Our Executive Director/CEO, Motunrayo Alaka, has been named an #EndMisogynyNG Ambassador by Journalists for Christ (JCF) International Outreach (JFC), in recognition of her leadership in advancing the course of women and girls, including through WSCIJ’s Report Women! programme.
We welcomed Lekan Otufodunrin, Founding President of JFC and Funmi Falobi, Head of Gender and Advocacy for the project, to our office, where they presented the award and shared insights from their latest report on ‘Trends & Context of Misogyny and TFGBV in Nigeria’. The report which tracked misogynistic content on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok and Instagram, offers a sobering reflection on the challenges women continue to face in cyber spaces.
The WSCIJ with the support from Open Society Foundations West Africa focused its Report Women! Female Reporters Leadership Programme (FRLP) on Sexual and Gender Based Violence for two years. WSCIJ published the ‘Missing data, missing justice’ report to show the status of justice for SGBV survivors and victims based on media reports spanning 2018-2020. We hope women become safer both online and offline through the different interventions by civil society and the media.
