The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is seeking a Communications Manager to lead and execute its communication strategies, ensuring impact-driven messaging across multiple platforms.
About the Role
As Communications Manager, you will oversee the development and execution of WSCIJ’s communication initiatives, reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications. You will lead a team that includes Communications Officers, Digital Storytelling & Multimedia Specialists, and Communications Associates, ensuring consistency, visibility, and strategic alignment with the organisation’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and manage WSCIJ’s multi-platform communication strategies that reflect advocacy goals, ensuring clarity and consistency.
- Strengthen relationships with media outlets, journalism communities, and digital storytelling networks.
- Oversee press relations, strategic messaging, and advocacy-driven communication efforts.
- Lead social media engagement and digital storytelling campaigns to enhance audience outreach.
- Coordinate internal and external communications, supporting organisational alignment.
- Manage crisis communication and reputation management strategies.
- Oversee content creation, ensuring messaging accuracy and storytelling impact.
- Drive public engagement efforts, including advocacy campaigns and media outreach initiatives.
- Ensure brand integrity, ethical storytelling, and audience trust-building across all messaging.
- Strengthen brand positioning within investigative journalism and advocacy spaces.

- Strategic Messaging & Brand Execution – Ability to craft compelling narratives with clarity and consistency and implement advocacy-driven communication strategies.
- Media Relations & Stakeholder Engagement – Proven experience managing press relations and journalism partnerships.

- Multi-Platform Content Creation & Execution – Proficiency in multimedia storytelling, communications strategy, and digital content creation.
- Leadership & Team Management – Capacity to lead, mentor, and coordinate a team of communication professionals.
Who We Are Looking For
Ideal candidates should have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in communications, media relations, or nonprofit advocacy.
- Strong understanding of digital and traditional media communications strategies.
- Expertise in social media management, analytics tracking, and content creation.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a focus on investigative journalism narratives.
- Experience managing crisis communications and public relations strategies.
