Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director/CEO of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has highlighted the place of excellence for budding journalists within the Nigerian media space. She made this disclosure at the Journalists For Christ (JFC) fellowship on Saturday 21 January 2023 in Lagos. Addressing participants at the event-themed ‘Pursuit of Excellence in Media Practice’ where she admonished media practitioners to be deliberate in the line of duty.
She stressed that professional ethics must be the guiding principle for all journalists while on duty because at the foundation of the profession lies service to humanity as the watchdog of society.
“We must get to the point that money will not be the basis of service. Our motivation should be the desire to impart our society. It has helped me over the years,” Alaka said.
Alaka also advised journalists to pay attention to their mental health by building a support system made up of family and friends who share similar ideals and qualities.
At the interactive session, journalists were tasked to look out for complacency signs during their careers which often creeps-in in the form of contentment.
